THINGS WHAT WE LIKE – MARCH 2012 (FEATURE)

I sometimes think that the world of blogging moves way too fast, we live in an age where if you don’t post a song the day it’s released then you’re pretty much fucked, it’s considered old because they’re already jamming the next thing. Therein lies the problem, you get about a day or two to enjoy a song before something else comes out and fights for a place in your iPod. For example I forgot that Zeds Dead released an EP no too long ago, I only realised when I mentioned it in a recap post.

Things What We Like will happen at the start of every month and if not right at the start then within the first week depending on what’s going on in my rock and roll life. It will serve as massive recap of the previous month and will lead nicely into an end of year list. I haven’t decided yet if I will be doing a song/album/mixtape of the year, the idea of that much pressure is already making me nervous.

Head past the break to see what we enjoyed in March 2012. This is not a definitive list, this is just what we enjoyed here at MilkshakesAndMoustaches.

EMALKAY – FLESH AND BONE (ORIGINAL MIX)
There were some great remixes released along side this track but the original takes the biscuit as the best version. It’s the version I find myself listening to most.

GOTYE – SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW FT. KENDRA (KDREW REMIX)
I mentioned in the post that I couldn’t decide if this was cheesy or really fucking good. I’ve now fully decided that this is really fucking good. I can listen to this and still feel like I’m listening to the original without feeling weird for liking Gotye. This way I keep that hipster persona. Also, pairing the breakdown with Kendra’s lyrics is a stroke of genius.

EMELI SANDÉ – NEXT TO ME (NU:TONE REMIX)
I don’t think this was released in March but that’s when we posted it and started listening to it. I can’t praise this song enough, it’s a more sombre affair than the original. I’ve always felt that the original is a little too happy for those vocals and that’s why I prefer this version.

FLUX PAVILLION – DAYDREAMER FT. EXAMPLE
This song is all set to take the world by storm it just needs a little encouragement from the sunshine. As soon as it warms you wont be able to go anywhere without hearing this. That long drawn out bass gets me everytime.

PLAN B – ILL MANORS
This is a dope song for a few reasons, one being that Plan B is back to rapping, the other being that it’s the right kind of protest song. With lyrics like “there’s no such thing as broken Britain we’re just bloody broke in Britain” you can see that there is at least one person out there who gets it. It’s just a great example of conscious hip hop.

ZEDS DEAD & OMAR LINX – VICTOR
This could easily be the best EP of 2012, Zeds Dead flex their production muscle to create an EP not confined, or even explained, by a single genre.

FUN – WE ARE YOUNG FT. JANELLE MONAE (ALKIN RISK REMIX)
I can imagine this becoming the song of summer 2012, you know the kind of song that when you listen to it you instantly remember a certain time. An example of this, for me, was Modestep’s Sunlight, that was pretty much the song of summer 2011.

MARINA & THE DIAMONDS – PRIMADONNA (BURNS REMIX)
Know how I know this a good song? I’ve never heard anything like in my 22 years on this earth. This doesn’t get a proper release until April 15th and I’m sure it will pop up in next month’s recap as well.

SKRILLEX – RUDEBOY BASS FT. DAMIAN MARLEY
I’ve said many times that my gripe with Skrillex was that for the longest time he was recycling the same sound, this one is so different that it doesn’t really sound like Skrillex. This and Summit are probably my favourite songs from Sonny.

I would like the riterate the point that this is by no means a definitive list of the best song of March, if it was it would probably be a lot different, it’s a just a cherry pick of our favourite things that we covered.
