WORTH A LISTEN: THE HUNTING ACCIDENT

I love Twitter, the amount of dope bands that follow me but never submit music is staggering. I always wonder how they find me as well, I’d love to survey every single one to find out, it could be so many reasons; it could be that they like the site and think their band would fit, or that they follow any of the artists we’ve interviewed or they have just followed tonnes of people to get some follow-backs.

I hardly ever check these bands out though, I’m all too busy to check out numerous bands and artists every single day but The Hunting Accident caught my eye. You can tell a surprising amount about a band based on things like the way they conduct themselves on social networks, band name, artwork etc.

I’m not going to pretend to know anything about these guys but after a quick read of their About page I can tell you that it’s made up of people who were all in different bands that eventually broke up. They joined forces and The Hunting Accident was formed.

Head past the break to check out the full post and some of their music.

So what do they sound like? Well, I’m not too learned in bands like this, I started out as a hip hop blogger then shortly after got into drum and bass and indie/alternative/pop which is why this blog is all over the place (read my full story here). Going back to their ‘about’ page I noticed the terms post-pop, power-pop, hardcore, post-hardcore pop up. So their sound, if you can imagine it, is inspired by that.

With all those influences flying around you’d think that their music was a bit all over the place but it’s not, what they’ve done is great, their sound is well formed and sounds crisp. It’s songs like Important where you can definitely hear the pop influence coming through. They flip it around in Jack Trap to a heavier style but it all flows and they sound strong in both songs.

They have a new project coming out on July 17th called Trees And Parks which you can download now for free. From what I can deduce, the free download is made up of shorter versions of the tracks, they’re not like 30 second snippets in fact they’re around two and a half minutes long. I have to say, artists who are so blatantly doing music for the love are always winners in my eyes. One of the big incentives of buying the hard copy is that the cover is made out of wood, which is something I’ve never seen before. It made me buy one.

It’s hard for me to pick a favourite track from their new EP, As You Choke stands out to me straight away and the title track‘s guitar riff reminds me of something The Jam would have made back in the day.

You can listen and download their new album Trees And Parks below and pay a visit to their store to get yourself a copy.
